Here's a few fun facts about the Saguaro Cactus.
They can live a relatively long lifespan, often more than 150 years
They might grow their first "side arm" around 75-100 years
Often they will grow over 40 feet (12 meters) tall
The Saguaro is native to the Sonoran Desert of southern Arizona, the Mexican state of Sonora and a small part of southern California
So, what does this have to do with a baby shower gift, you ask?
A dear friend is having a baby in April, she and her husband grew up in Arizona. Of course the crocheted baby blanket needs to have Saguaro Cactus on it!!
I found this cute pattern from Daisy Farm Crafts! They have a wonderful variety of patterns, stitches, and yarn suggestions.
I modified this particular pattern just a bit to make it a bit more personal and love the way it turned out. I made it a smaller size so that it can be easily used as a car seat blanket, but is still big enough to be used to cuddle a baby in!
This is the first time I have used Lion Brand Heartland yarn. The main color is Gateway Arch, the Saguaro are make with Lion Brand Premier non-pilling in white. I love it! it is soft, and drapes well.
The Stitch used is Front 2 Loop Half Double Crochet (F2LPHDC). I love the lined texture that this particular stitch gives the blanket. The border is a simple HDC and 2 more rows of single crochet.
Now, I can't wait to gift this sweet blanket!
